Guess What!!...guns germs and steel
We are getting close to the end of Guns Germs and Steel. Horray!! We had a good class discussion today where we talked about why the people in New Guinea aren't as advanced as us and are still essentially living in the stone age. We also talked about what would happen if people cam en and tried to modernize New Guinea and whether or not the people in New Guinea would accept the technology we have or just want to live the same way they have always been. I think that if all I knew was one way of life and then people came and tried to change it I would refuse to change my ways. But, I am also a very stubborn person and I know that some people are more accepting of change.

Guns Germs and Steel...Again
We watched even more of Guns Germs and Steel. We took notes and talked about sago and lots of agriculture. We started talking about farming animals and how that came to be and the domestication of wild animals. We started a list of animals that were over 100 pounds and had been domesticated. There were some animals that I didn't recognize the names of, but essentially they were just big farm animals. For an animal to be domesticated it needs to get along with other animals, get along with people, and reproduce quickly. I think we will be watching the video for the next class, and I kind of want it to be over so that we can take more structured notes.

More Germs Guns and Steel
Today in class we took a pop quiz about Germs, Guns, and Steel and it made me cry. I only got one wrong. I don't like pop quizzes and Mr.Schick showed us a video of a balloon that freaked me out because balloons are one of my only big fears. We watched the movie again but we stopped every so often to talk about what was going on and what we had in our notes. It helped me a lot to have Mr.Schick stop and point out important things that we could write down and think about. I find the video very interesting and I hope that we can continue watching it and learn more about the interesting people in the film.

Our First Class and Guns Germs and Steel
Today was our first Western Civ class. We switched seats and I sit in the far, front, right corner of the classroom in front of Patrick. The whole started talking a lot because we were excited to have a new person and be starting a new class, but Mr. Schick got mad at us for talking and got mad that some people were talking about how they were cold. He told us to wear pants. Apparently, he had other plans for our class today, but since we were too loud we just put earbuds in and we took notes on a video called, Guns Germs and Steel. It was pretty interesting, and I took some good notes, but I wish we could have started the semester off on a better note. I think that we really freaked out Ryan because he was the only new person in our class today. Hopefully, we all get used to working well in a class together.
